Swimming

Y5 pupils swim for 30 minutes each week at Oxley swimming pool, in Sherborne. Y5 swimming commences in September and pupils swim each week until the end of term 5. (Summer half term). Year 6 pupils then swim for the final half of term.

It is our intention to ensure that by the end of Y6, our pupils will:

• Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.

• Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

• Perform safe self‐rescue in different water‐based situations

Free School Meal funded children pay half of the total cost – this does not include Service Children. Charges are £4.00 a week (£2 for FSM children) to pay for the swimming coach only, per session.
