We are currently reading Thieves of Ostia, a book set in Ostia in AD 79, during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian. It follows the adventures of a Roman girl named Flavia Gemina, along with her friends, a Jewish boy named Jonathan ben Mordecai; Nubia, an African slave-girl; and Lupus, a mute beggar-boy. Together, the children try to unmask the perpetrator behind the brutal killings of several dogs in Ostia.
