Science in Ho Yen

Today in class, we had an exciting science lesson centred around the fascinating work of Charles Darwin and his finch experiment. We learned about his theory of evolution and how he studied the finches on the Galápagos Islands. To bring the concept to life, we carried out our own mini-investigation using seeds and tweezers to represent the different beak shapes of the finches.

It was brilliant to see everyone actively engaged as we explored how beak shape affects feeding efficiency. We discussed Darwin's observations and then had a go at making our own predictions on which beak design would be most successful for different seeds. This hands-on approach made the lesson informative and fun, allowing us to really grasp the essentials of natural selection. I think we all walked away with a greater appreciation for Darwin's groundbreaking work and the mechanisms of evolution!
