Welcome to St Michael's Academy
A very warm welcome to the St Michael’s Academy website.
We are extremely proud of our caring and supportive school community where we celebrate and develop the wide and varied skills and interests of our children through a broad and balanced curriculum. We value each child’s potential whether that be academic, creative, sporting or social.
Here at St Michael’s our mission is to develop personal fulfilment within all our pupils so that they continue their lives with determination, self-esteem, initiative and pride. We are aspiring to improve things for all of our children, our staff and the community and ensure that all children leave St Michael’s as prepared as they can possibly be for their next steps in education and the wider world. To this end, St Michael's offers a rich, diverse and balanced curriculum that is built around the acquisition of skills and knowledge.
Is it wonderful to know that following our recent Ofsted inspection that the judgement of the school was ‘good’. Our pupils are described as being kind, well behaved and very supportive of each other. Staff work tirelessly to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to broaden their experiences with pupil well-being at the heart of everything that we do. Our curriculum is broad, balanced, creative and innovative and meets the needs of all pupils.
Our pupils spoke with great confidence when questioned by the Ofsted inspectors and demonstrated empathy towards each other. They respect the uniqueness of the school and fully embrace the diversity of all that attend. They are proud of their teachers, their friends and most of all themselves.
MATT VELLA - Head Teacher
In order to safeguard the pupils and staff at St Michael’s Academy and to fully protect the school community, the Governing body and I have decided that the whole school will move to remote learning from tomorrow.
The last week has been one of the most challenging that I have faced as head teacher. Children are demonstrating non covid like symptoms and are then testing positive for the virus. There have also been a number of pupils test positive who are asymptomatic. Clearly this is a difficult situation to manage and I want you to know that the decision above has been made with the best interests for everyone at school in mind.
As it currently stands, I have a number of poorly staff and unfortunately due to further staff absence we are no longer able to offer face to face education to those pupils who have attended school this week.
For pupils in Year 4 and 5, rest assured that your teachers will be in touch at some point tomorrow. Laptops and work packs were sent home in these year groups today but should you require an additional device then please email firstname.lastname@example.org. It is worth remembering that Google meets can be accessed via a phone, X-box or PlayStation.
Sadly, the governors and I have also made the decision that the FSM holiday clubs planned to take place over Easter will also be cancelled.
Hopefully, a 3 week circuit breaker will give us the best chance to start the summer term covid free!
If your child develops any covid symptoms or complains of a sore throat, achy body then I would suggest that you seek advice from 111 immediately. If you or anyone else in your household develops symptoms then please contact the school office as we may need to contact other families regarding self isolation.
Wishing you and your families well during this difficult time.
